An Ebony Tree at Sunset in the Tarangire National Park
This intricate design is an ebony tree at sunset in Tarangire National Park. Known more accurately in Swahili as mpingo, ebony is a valuable African blackwood found mainly in Tanzania and Mozambique. Used for tourist carvings, ebony deforestation is a problem. It is estimated that the remaining supplies of harvestable wood in Tanzania will be depleted in twenty to thirty years.
